European households burned 746 072 TJ of heating oil in 2023; industrial & commercial boilers added another 385 058 TJ (Eurostat). Switzerland adds 2.36 billion litres (Avenergy Suisse). Combined EU27 + CH: ~33.8 Bn L diesel-equivalent — the quietest, year-round high-volume burn in the portfolio. Cleaner combustion = stable burn rate + extended boiler service intervals.
